Here are some details from the process....

   B&W Enlargement                     Tracing paper cartoon on painted                            cotton velveteen

First a B&W enlargement of the original postcard was made, a tracing paper "cartoon" was made, and areas of contiguous color were blocked off on the cartoon. The cartoon was placed over the painted cotton velveteen, then each color replaced one-by-one with fabric. When complete, fabric pieces were fused to the background, then surrounded by couched braid.

After machine sewing, twisted cords for hair and the velvet hat with tassels were added. Photo-transfer on polymer clay was usesd for the jump rope handles. The whole piece was "big stitch" quilted.
