Shimmer was started in a 2002 Sue Benner workshop, as an experiment in fusing sheer fabrics, mostly from India. Then I recently began experimenting with fusible Angelina fiber, and the colors and shine seemed to match the sheer background.

After fusing, Angelina can be embossed with rubber stamps. The symbols used were the Egyptian sign of the Sun (Ra), the Chinese characters for "clarity", the Hebrew word or for "light", and the Arabic word nur for light, which carries all the connotations associated with light: brilliance, beauty, perception, and enlightenment. The Chinese character for "shining", in the center, is two colors of Angelina, with one machine appliqued onto the other.
